Harvey Weinstein has promoted Michael Rothstein and Jonathan Kier to fill the slot vacated by The Weinstein Company International chief Glen Basner, who as widely predicted has departed the company following a three-year tenure.

Rothstein has worked with the Weinsteins for more than a decade and becomes executive vice president of international sales and distribution, while three-year veteran Kier is named senior vice president of international sales and distribution.

Together the New York-based executives will continue to work on all international sales of TWC and Dimension titles and will report to The Weinstein Company (TWC) COO Lee Solomon, who continues to oversee the international department.

Basner one of the preeminent sales executives in the business, was unavailable for comment and is understood to be in talks with financiers prior to setting up his own company. Before joining TWC he headed the international sales division at Focus Features. At TWC he oversaw sales on a raft of titles, among them upcoming releases like The Box from Richard Kelly starring Cameron Diaz, Kevin Smith's Zack And Miri Make A Porno and the animated feature Igor, as well as horror tale 1408, Sundance hits Teeth and Wordplay and LA-based Mayhem Project's first two titles Clock Tower and Make It Happen.

Basner promoted Rothstein to senior vice president of international sales and distribution and Kier to vice president of international distribution and sales in late 2006. Rothstein segued into TWC from Miramax Films, where he started his career in 2007. Kier joined TWC in 2005 and prior to that worked in the affiliate sales strategy group at MTV Networks. He started his career as a development executive at Universal-based Marc Platt Productions.

'Michael and Jonathan have both been integral members of TWC's international team since the start of the company,' Solomon said. 'They have done exceptional work, negotiating a wide range of deals for us, and these much deserved promotions are a natural progression in their careers.'

'Michael and Jonathan have been instrumental in the success of our international sales and distribution division, and learned a lot under the leadership of Glen Basner,' Harvey Weinstein said. 'Our international department is continuing to grow. We recently hired David Spiegelman to spearhead our television sales department, and with Lee's experience in global distribution, we are set up for continued success with our sales department.'
