Documentaries booked the upcoming Slamdance Film Festival, whichruns from Jan 21-28 in Park City. Opening night film is Marilyn Agrelo's childballroom dancing saga Mad Hot Ballroom and closing night film is Michael Franti's war documentary I KnowI Am Not Alone.

All in all the festival will screen a record 23 world and USpremieres, including David Greenspan's dark romantic comedy Mall Cop, Rob Stefaniuk's absurdist comedy PhilThe Alien and ChristophHochhausler's psychodrama This Very Moment.

Documentaries include Jennifer Abel and Jeff Hockett's AbelRaises Cain, about thenotorious media hoaxer Alan Abel, Don Bernier's In A Nutshell, and Jonathan Berman's Commune, starring Peter Coyote.

The week-long festival has expanded this year to include a secondscreening venue and new Park City box office, in addition to the festivalheadquarters at the Treasure Mountain Inn.

Salt Lake City screenings will be expanded to both the newly refurbishedMurray Theatre and the brew pub theater Brewvies. Events include specialscreenings and the Midnight Series.

"We feel the documentary film to be the last stand of trulyindependent filmmaking - not yet co-opted by studios or the mini-majors butinstead fresh voices from filmmakers almost always nearly shy of resources butrich in story," festival director Kathleen McInnis said in a statement.

"We couldn't bemore excited to bookend our festival with two such strong films. They willencapsulate an extraordinary line up of films that showcase remarkablerisk-taking, passion and cinematic verve."
