After over 18 years working in the field of distribution and for Constantin Film, Thomas Peter Friedl has announced that he will not be extending his contract as Distribution, Marketing & Central Services Director at Constantin Film after January 31, 2008.
The management of the distribution arm Constantin Filmverleih will be taken over from February by Fred Kogel, Constantin Film's CEO and board member responsible for licence trading.
While Friedl has not given any indication of his destination after Constantin, one German press report suggested that his path could cross with a new distribution outfit being planned by Paramount Pictures Internationalfor releasing its own and DreamWorks titles in Germany from January 2009.
Under Friedl's management, Constantin's distribution arm currently has two films in the German Top 10: Michael 'Bully' Herbig's animated feature Lissi Und Der Wilde Kaiser and Leander Haussmann's romantic comedy Warum Maenner Nicht Zuhoeren und Frauen Schlecht Einparken, which opened at the No. 1 spot two weeks ago with $ 2.27m takings and was pushed down to No. 2 last weekend by new release The Golden Compass.
