Therecently-formed Directors UKhave signed an agreement with 27,000 strong media workers trade union BECTU.

The deal acknowledges each others rights to represent their members interests in negotiations with employers and agrees to areas of mutual support.

Directors UK, formed in June, has 3,500 members in broadcasting and film.

Chair of the group Charles Sturridge said: 'It is a matter of great personal satisfaction that at this moment of both challenge and opportunity in our industry Directors UK and BECTU can formally stand together to fight for our mutual creative and economic rights and articulate together the standards which we and our audience deserve.'

Martin Spence , Assistant General Secretary of BECTU says: 'Where directors and crew have common problems, they need a single voice. Directors UK recognises this, and the Agreement helps us provide it. We look forward to developing this crucial partnership.'
