Arclight Films has launched Easternlight, a sales, marketingand distribution division dedicated to Asian cinema.

The division will encompass all genres, with Arclight managing director Gary Hamilton serving asmanaging director and chairman.

Easternlight will commence salesat Berlin on its first two titlesfrom China:cinematographer Hou Yong's cross-generational familysaga Jasmine Women starring Zhang Ziyi and Joan Chen, and Zhang Jiaru'sromance The Road starring Zhang Jingchu, Fan Wei and Nie Yuan.

Ying Ye joins as director of acquisitions and marketing andwill handle sales for Arclight, genre division Darclight and Easternlight inChinese-speaking territories. Arclight's president ofinternational sales Jonathan Deckter will handlesales for the rest of the world.

"Eastern Light will be a division that will welcomecollaboration with all Asian regions with regard to co-productions," Hamiltonsaid.

"However we also welcome the chance of developingprojects that are purely region specific. Easternlightwill encompass cinema of all tastes, whether that be a visceral action picturefrom Thailand,a lush period film from China,a hip urban tale from Japanor a horror film from India."
