MasahiroKobayashi's drama Bashing has taken the Grand Prize at the Tokyo FILMeXfilm festival, together with a Y1 million ($8,400) cash award . Premiered in thisyear's Cannes competition, the film tells the story of a young woman who, afterbeing taken hostage in a Middle Eastern country, returns to Japan only to findherself a community outcast, scorned for her"selfishly" dangerous behaviour. Based on a true story, the film isKobayashi's sixth feature. Jury chairman Abolfazl Jalil presented the award.

Wilson Yip's crimethriller SPL won the Audience Award, while Ying Liang's father-son dramaTaking Father Home received the Kodak Vision award.

The 6th edition ofthe Tokyo FILMeX festival screened 34 films in four sections, including theCompetition, Special Screenings, Nobuo Nakagawa retrospective and a specialprogram of film classics from Switzerland.
