Swedish actress Pernilla August’s directorial debut Beyond has scooped 8 nominations for Sweden’s national film awards, the Guldbagge Awards, which will take place on Jan 24 in Stockholm.

Chosen by a jury of 34 members, the film tells the story of a grown-up daughter (played by TheGirl With The Dragon Tattoo actress Noomi Rapace) who is forced to confront her alcoholic mother. It premiered in Venice in 2010 where it won the audience award for best film in critics week, before going on to win the top prize at Nordic Film Days in Lubeck.

Also up for multiple awards is Andreas Öhman’s feature debut (and Sweden’s chosen Foreign Language Oscar contender) Simple Simon, which received 4 nominations; together with Babak Najafi’s Sebbe and Lisa Langseth’s Purewhich each picked up 3 nominations.
