Continuing its awards season kudos, Brokeback Mountain received the top honours at the London Critics' Circle Awards. Ang Lee won for best director and the film won the group'sbest film award.

The other prizes were less predictable: Bruno Ganz won best actor for Downfall(which also won the foreign-language film category), and Naomi Watts won bestactress for King Kong.

Thandie Newton won best supporting actress for Crash and Tom Hollander won supportingactor for Pride & Prejudice.

Crash writers Paul Haggis and Bobby Moresco took the screenwriting honour.

The British prizes were dominated by The Constant Gardener, with RalphFiennes and Rachel Weisz taking acting prizes, Simon Channing Williams winning bestBritish producer, and the film taking the Attenborough prize for best Britishfilm. The British newcomer award went to Kelly Reilly for Mrs. Henderson Presents. Pride & Prejudice's Joe Wright wonBritish director.

The Dilys Powell award for contribution to British cinema went to director BryanForbes, who made Whistle Down the Windand 1975's The StepfordWives.
