Former HandMade COO and head of sales Carl Clifton has started work in his new role as executive director of UK-based international film company The Works Media Group.

He is also managing director of the company's sales agency, The Works International, whose current slate includes James Marsh's Man On Wire and Shane Meadows' Somers Town.

Joy Wong, Head of International Sales, will report to Carl Clifton.

Clifton joined the revived HandMade in November 2006 and worked on a slate of films including animated title Planet 51, thriller 50 Dead Men Walking, Eloise In Paris and the remake of The Long Good Friday.

Before HandMade, Clifton worked at Polygram Films International, Universal Pictures International, Film4 and as an independent producer on films such as Patrice Leconte's L'Homme du Train.

'We are lucky to have attracted such a knowledgeable and commercial executive to The Works. Carl's considerable experience of film finance and sales will enable us to broaden the palette at The Works International. His arrival strengthens both the business model and the management team and I look to the future with confidence.' said Norman Humphrey, Group CEO.
