Following the Berlinale competition screening of Hans Petter Molland's Beautiful Country earlier in the week, Content International's Jamie Carmichael has received firm offers from the three major territories left unsold, Japan, Germany and Italy, and is expected to close deals in the next imminently.

'It's a wonderfully intelligent and moving film with a strong contemporary undercurrent,' Carmichael commented of the film, which is about a young Vietnamese man who embarks on a bizarre odyssey in search of his American-born father.

Though Beautiful Country elicited a very warm, often emotional response from Berlin audiences, Carmichael revealed that due to a 'mix-up' in the labs, the film was screening in a far murkier print than the producers would have wished.

By the time Beautiful Country (which also screens in the EFM) re-surfaces at the American Film Market later this month, the print is likely to be '10-15%' brighter. The film will be released in the US by Sony Pictures Classics.
