Dimension Films has acquired newcomer Mikey Wigart's thriller screenplayShiver, which is setto be directed and produced by Twelve And Holding director Michael Cuesta.

Inspired by true events, the story follows a group of New Year'sEve party-goers stranded in a snowstorm who stumble upon the home of a torture-obsesseddoctor.

"Shiver is a perfect match for Dimension and we could not be more excitedto collaborate with Michael Cuesta on bringing this terrifying script tolife," Dimension chief Bob Weinstein said.

"What I like about Shiver and the horror genre is that when it'sdone honestly, with serious intent, it can tap into the social fears and anxietiesof our time," Cuesta said.

"I find that exploring the grotesque, the abhorrent, and whatdisturbs us, is a chance to convey some universal truths about us and our society."

Dimension head of production Richard Saperstein, senior vicepresident of production Matthew Stein, and director of development and productionAlex Franklin will oversee production for the studio.

Saperstein andsenior vice president of business and legal affairs Sarah Sobel negotiated thedeal with ICM on behalf of Wigart and Cuesta, who was also represented byattorney Andrew Hurwitz of Epstein, Levinson, Bodine & Hurwitz, and FrankFrattaroli of Widescreen Management.
