K5 International, the worldwide sales company based in Munich, London and LA, has picked up the rights for Israeli helmer Guy Nattiv’s second feature Mabul (The Flood).
Co-produced by K5 Film with UCM Films, Intuitive Pictures, Metro Communications, Mact Productions, EZ Films, Mabul will soon be released in Israel. The film received major backing from The Israeli Film Fund and Telefilm, Canada.
Mabul, which won Best Film at the Haifa International Film Festival in 2010 and was nominated for 6 Israeli Academy Awards with Michael Moshonov winning Best Israeli Supporting Actor, will have its international premiere in this year’s Berlinale Generation Section.
The new feature is based on Nattiv’s short film, which won the Crystal Bear in 2002. In turn based on an original story by Noa Berman-Herzberg, who shares writing credits with Nattiv, Mabul is the rites of passage story of 13-year-old Yoni who has no choice but to become a man when his relationship with his dysfunctional family is complicated further by the unexpected return of his autistic brother.
Israeli actress Ronit Elkabetz, known for her part in The Band’s Visit and her work with André Téchiné, plays the mother. Michael Moshonov, recently seenin Lebanon, plays the autistic brother. The role of Yoni is young Yoav Rotman’s debut performance.
