E1 Films International has sold Australian rights to Sophie Barthes' comedy Cold Souls to Madman, hot on the heels of Samuel Goldwyn Films' acquisition of US rights following the world premiere at Sundance.

Sales chief Charlotte Mickie also announced that Memento has acquired French rights to Cherien Dabis' Palestinian immigrant story Amreeka, another Sundance premiere that has attracted interest from North American buyers.

Rights to Cold Souls, which stars Paul Giamatti as an alternate version of himself that gets mixed up in soul trafficking, previously sold to Memento in France, Imagine in the Benelux, Audio Visual in Greece, Castello Lopez in Portugal, Front Row in the Middle

East, VTI in the former Yugoslavia, Monopole Pathe in Switzerland and Transylvania in Romania.

E1 bulked up its EFM slate this week when it acquired worldwide rights to Michael Winterbottom and Mat Whitecross' economic disaster documentary The Shock Doctrine that gets its world premiere here as a work-in-progress on February 9.
