A host of European short films have been nominated for next month's European Film Awards, the European Film Academy (EFA) and sponsors UIP announced during the Flanders International Film Festival in Ghent.

Amongst the contenders are The Heist, by Dennis Petersen and Frederik Meldal Norgaard of Denmark, Lo Basico, by Spain's Jose Garcia Hernandez, and Je T'Aime John Wayne, by the UK's Toby MacDonald.

The shorts, nominations by the EFA board members after screening in a special programme during the Flanders festival, will screen in Berlin during the awards week-end as part of the event's annual public screenings.Also in the frame are films including Gerald Hustache-Mathieu's French title Peau De Vache, Norway's A Se En Bat Med Seil, by Anja Breien, and Svitjod 2000+, by Marten Nilsson and David Flamholc of Sweden

The UK also has Jocelyn Cammack's Better Or Worse going, while Portugal has Sandro Aguilar's Corpo E Meio. Copy Shop, by Virgil Widrich, represents Austria, with Slawomir Fabicki's A Man Thing and Jan Krueger's Freunde/The Whiz Kids up for Poland. and Germany respectively.
