Special mention goes to Snowtown; ACID/CCAS goes to Les Acacias.

Cannes Critics Week awarded its prizes on Thursday night with Jeff Nichols’ Take Shelter taking the Grand Prix Nespresso.

Michael Shannon and Jessica Chastain star in the story of a man increasingly driven mad by doomsday visions. Chastain is also in Cannes with Terrence Malick’s Tree Of Life.

Take Shelter also scooped up the Prix SACD.

Critics’ Week jury president Lee Chang-dong gave a special mention nod to Justin Kurzel’s Snowtown, an Australian serial killer film.

The ACID/CCAS prize went to Pablo Giorgelli’s Les Acacias. The road-trip film also took the Very Young Critics prize whose jury is made up of 24 French and German high school students who take part in a workshop to learn about film criticism.
