The education charity, set up by Beeban Kidron, already operates in 7000 schools in the UK and aims to reach 338 schools in Northern Ireland, rolling out in April 2012.

UK Education charity FILMCLUB has expanded into Northern Ireland, following an initial pilot programme.

The initiative, which helps schools set up and run film clubs where young people can watch and review a diverse range of global films - is being backed by Northern Ireland Screen together with the Department of Culture Arts and Leisure.

Currently delivered in 68 schools in Northern Ireland, the scheme is being extended to 338 schools to reach roughly 28% of the total number of schools in Northern Ireland - commencing in April 2012.

It will be managed by Cinemagic and the Nerve Centre.

The scheme, founded by UK film-maker Beebon Kidron, already operates in 7,000 schools in England.
