Fortissimo Films has picked up Gigantic, an off-beat comedy with a stellar cast headed by Zooey Deschanel, Paul Dano and John Goodman, from US production outfits Killer Films and Epoch Films.

The debut of Matt Aselton, the film revolves around a mattress store worker who falls for a potty-mouthed girl while in the process of adopting a Chinese baby.

Fortissimo will begin pre-sales on the film, which is scheduled for completion by early 2009, here at Cannes.

The deal was brokered by Fortissimo co-chair Michael J. Werner, senior vice president, development and acquisitions Ashley Luke and senior vice president, sales and acquisitions Winnie Lau with Killer Films’ chief Christine Vachon and Epoch Films’ founder Mindy Goldberg.

Fortissimo has a long relationship with Vachon’s Killer Films and represents part of the company’s library, the Killer Films Collection, including Todd Haynes’ Safe and Poison.

A leading commercials production company, Epoch Films produced its first feature film, Phil Morrison’s Junebug, in 2004. The film screened in competition at Sundance and was selected for Critics Week at Cannes.
