The UK's Granada Media and US public broadcaster WGBH have struck a deal to co-produce My Uncle Silas, a mini-series based on short stories by HE Bates, set to star Albert Finney and Charlotte Rampling.

Granada-owned Yorkshire Television will produce the series - about a ten-year-old boy sent to the country at the turn of the century - while Granada International will handle sales.

Peter Norris, who worked on the television series of HE Bates' The Darling Buds Of May, will produce the series while Philip Saville will direct from an adaptation by Robert Banks Stewart and Peter Tinniswood. Executive producers are David Reynolds, Richard Bates and Philip Burley. The cast also includes Sue Johnston and Lynda Bellingham.
