Globetrotting Portuguese producer Paulo Branco has announced casting on the new Jacques Doillon feature, the Bergman-style drama In Four Winds.

Pascale Greggory, Julie Depardieu and Louis Garrel have been signed up for the film, which shoots in July and is sold through his sales outfit Alfama. The $3.3m (€2.5m) project will be co-produced by France 3 with the support of Canal Plus.

Branco is also producing Gael Morel’s next feature, Flying Away With You, due to shoot early next year. Laurence Ferreira Barbosa and Jeanne Balibar are both confirmed to star. Meanwhile, Branco is pushing ahead with his Don DeLillo adaptation Cosmopolis, which will shoot in Europe next year and for which he hopes to announce a director shortly.

In Cannes, Branco has also announced that Alfama Films is to boost its
theatrical distribution arm.  The company will handle French cinema releases of all the Branco titles. The next major film Alfama will be releasing is Fanny Ardant’s Ashes and Blood, which will receive a special screening out of competition later in the week. The release will be in September. Alfama has closed a deal for Brazil with Cult Filmes ahead of its world premiere.

Meanwhile, in his role as the founder of the Estoril Film Festival, Branco has announced details of the third edition this November. Cindy Sherman, David Byrne and Alexandre Desplat are all confirmed for the jury. Branco is angling for Francis Coppola’s Tetro (screening here in the Quinzaine) as an opening film. The festival will also hold a complete retrospective of the work of American film-maker, David Fincher.
