The inaugural Indian Film Festival of London will open at Riverside Studios in Hammersmith on Aug 25 with the UK premiere of Peepli Live, a comic satire about suicide in an Indian farming village.
Anusha Rizvi’s debut feature had its world premiere at Sundance. Aamir Khan produces.
The IFFL will also show the European premiere of Dunno Y, a controversial Bollywood exploration of a homosexual relationship, on Aug 27.
The festival, which will run through Aug 29 will feature a range of films from the continent including a retrospective of works by Vidhu Vinod Chopra, including his recent hit 3 Idiots.
The programme also includes Bhutto, The Waiting City, Ishqiya and Nero’s Guests.
Prime Focus is backing the festival.
Jury member Poorna Shetty said: “The IFFL is a fantastic initiative that is long overdue, setting up a platform for commercial and cultural discourse. I fully believe that it can and will become the horizon for emerging and established filmmakers, as well as artists.”
