WhileItaly has to wait until September 16 to see international blockbuster SpiderMan 2 soar into the local box office, it was Eagle Pictures' time travelmovie Timeline that opened on top last weekend, grossing $778,022 from258 screens for an average of $2,638 per screen.
UIP's TheStepford Wives also opened well, with the Nicole Kidman vehicle coming insecond with $629,898 from 237 screens.
It was asluggish weekend for Italian films. Mikado's French-Italian picture It'sEasier For A Camel was the only Italian film or co-production in the top20, and Valeria Bruni Tedeschi's semi-autobiographical film has grossed only$167,727 since its release four weeks ago.
Meanwhile, Brian Helgeland's The Order (aka TheSin Eater), which was shot entirely in Rome's Cinecitta Studios, onlymanaged to earn $14,726 on its opening weekend for a poor screen average of$775.
