Jan de Bont will direct Point Break: Indo for Singapore production and talent management firm RGM Entertainment and LA sales, development and production company Essential Entertainment.

Essential is handling worldwide sales on the project, a closely guarded story set in Indonesia 20 years after the disappearance of Patrick Swayze's surfing bank robber Bodhi. Filming will take place in multiple Asian locations including Singapore.

Taylor Morgan Pictures' Chris Taylor and John Morgan will produce and de Bont, RGM's Devesh Chetty, Essential CEO Jere Hausfater and chief business development officer Neil Kaplan serve as executive producers.

W Peter Iliff, who wrote the original Point Break in 1991 for Kathryn Bigelow, wrote the screenplay and the project is currently out to casting.

It is understood the producers are after Keanu Reeves to make a brief reappearance following his original role as an undercover FBI agent who pursues Swayze's gang of bank robbers.

'Jan de Bont has filmed some of the most thrilling action sequences in cinema, and his touch with actors is undeniable,' Kaplan said. 'The team at RGM and Essential look forward to collaborating on Point Break: Indo to bring fans an unforgettable action film with international flare.'

de Bont is represented by Paradigm and his credits include Speed, Twister and Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle Of Life.

Essential's Cannes slate includes the upcoming crime drama Queen Of The South starring Eva Mendes, Richard Loncraine's My One And Only starring Renee Zellweger, Solomon Kane with James Purefoy, and Bret Easton Ellis' The Informers.
