Olivier Award-winning playwright Jez Butterworth is writing the script for a feature about legendary punk rock group The Clash, which is due to shoot in 2011.

Produced by Alison Owen and Paul Trijbits for Ruby Films, together with Butterworth, the film will focus on the period around the making of The Clash’s album London Calling and the band’s relationship with troubled rock genius Guy Stevens.

The Clash members Mick Jones and Paul Simonon will serve as advisors and exec producers on the project, as well as granting exclusive rights to the band’s music.

The project has received development funding from the UKFC.
