Slovakia has selected Jiri Chlumsky’s Broken Promise as its selection for the foreign language category of the 2009 Academy Awards.

The film, which was released on April 30 in Slovakia, is the story of a boy in his early teens when Hitler’s troop invade Czechoslovakia who is transformed into a fierce fighter by the end of the war.

Genta Films produced the film which won the audience award at the Los Angeles Jewish Film Festival in April and is next slated to play at Pusan next month.
