Producer and development executive Jack Lechner has struck a first-look deal with New York and Los Angeles-based based Washington Square Arts & Films (WSF) to expand the company's film slate.

Lechner will be based at WSF's Manhattan office in charge of bringing in new projects and shepherding those already on WSF's roster. Both Lechner and WSF will also continue to pursue projects independently.

The company, led by president Joshua Blum, plans to produce four to six feature projects a year and is currently in development with Steven Soderbergh on a documentary about the late writer and performer Spalding Gray.

'Jack Lechner will be the motor for WSF's expansion, a job to which he brings an unparalleled combination of superb taste, deal-making acumen and depth of producing experience,' Blum said.

Lechner served as executive producer on Errol Morris' documentary The Fog Of War and the upcoming romance Blue Valentine. He was a senior executive at Miramax, Film Four and HBO, among others.
