Buena Vista International (BVI)'s Lilo & Stitch grossed an impressive $2.8m on 481 screens in its pre-holiday Japanese opening over the weekend, raising the animated feature's international running total to $103m. The Japanese bow was the biggest ever traditional US-produced animated opening and the fourth biggest ever opening for a US animated feature.

The Jungle Book 2 raised its international cumulative score to $28.7m after a $3.1m weekend haul. Highlights so far are a terrific $17.2m running total in France.

Oscar favourite Chicago took $3.4m in BVI territories over the weekend for a $40.1m overall running total, while Treasure Planet has now reached a $62.5m cumulative score.

The Hours raised its cumulative score in BVI territories to $9m after a $2.1m weekend haul. Italy opened on $850,000 on 150 screens, while a Mexican bow yielded $275,000 from 75.
