It is the latest addition to City Screen’s growing number of cinema venues in the UK.

City Screen is to open its latest cinema in London, the Hackney Picturehouse, in the autumn.

The Ocean building in London’s Hackney is being re-developed and will consist of four screens equipped with digital, 3D and satellite technology.

The programme will feature a number of live music events and live HD broadcasts of productions from venues such as the New York Met Opera and the Bolshoi Ballet and theatre productions including the NT Live.

City Screen now owns and operates 19 UK cinemas, including Hackney, as well as programming films for an additional 36 venues independently operated throughout the UK.

Lyn Goleby [pictured], managing director of City Screen which owns the chain of Picturehouse Cinemas said: “Our aim is to make the Hackney Picturehouse a really vibrant local community cinema that will become one of the linchpins of cultural activity in the centre of the borough, very much like sister cinemas in the circuit – The Ritzy in Brixton and the Clapham Picturehouse - offering a rich mix of mainstream and specialised film, music and other locally centred activity.”
