Award-winning Britishdirector Shane Meadows has made a short film shot entirely on a mobilephone.

The Stairwell, a 15-second short film, premiered on www.nokiashorts.co.uk on August 15 aspart if this year's Nokia Shorts competition.

Meadows, who has directedsuch films as Dead Man's Shoesand TwentyFourSeven, shot thefilm in a few hours on a Nokia N90 phone at VHS resolution.

This is the first year theNokia Shorts competition is introducing a category for films shot using amobile phone.

Helena Reid, spokeswoman forthe Nokia Short competition, said: "Shane is really excited about the wholeconcept of mobile film-making. Dueto the advancing capabilities of mobile phones, it has to be the future of film-making. We've seen the possibilities with TheBlair Witch Project and how itpioneered the use of digital camcorders in film."

The Nokia Shorts competitionwas launched in 2003 in conjunction with Raindance and challenges up-and-comingfilm-makers to create a short in only 15 seconds. Ten finalists will see their films screened at this year's13th Raindance Festival (September 28 - October 9).
