The First Purge director Gerard McMurray has signed on to write and direct The Silver Bear, the Lionsgate action thriller with Black Panther’s Michael B Jordan as star and producer.
The two filmmakers previously worked together on 2013 Sundance prize-winner Fruitvale Station, with Jordan starring and McMurray serving as a producer. McMurray also directed 2017 Netflix drama Burning Sands and is one of the directors on the forthcoming Jordan Peele-produced Twilight Zone reboot series for CBS All Access.
To be produced by Lionsgate with Nickel City Pictures and Jordan’s Outlier Society, The Silver Bear will be adapted from the first of Derek Haas’ novels about the most feared and respected hitman in the criminal underworld. Jordan signed on to star and produce for Lionsgate last autumn. Vishal Rungta, Mark Fasano and Ankur Rungta will be producing for Nickel City.
McMurray commented: “Fruitvale Station changed our lives. Six years later I’m reuniting with Michael in 2019 and directing him in one of the most exciting and intelligent kick-ass action projects Hollywood and Lionsgate has cooking. It’s beyond dreams.”
