AFI FEST 2009 will release five films for Halloween on October 31, including Sean Byrne’s Toronto hit The LovedOnes and the Red Riding Trilogy.

The other Halloween releases include Joe Dante’s 3D suspense film The Hole, Ted Kotcheff’s Wake In Fright, Michael Stephenson’s Best Worst Movie and Bong Joon-ho’s mystery thriller Mother, the South Korean foreign language Oscar submission.

“Rollicking cult movie worship and Ozploitation lead the way in our celebration of Halloween at AFI FEST this year,” AFI FEST senior programmer Lane Kneedler said. “We are thrilled to be embracing fringe filmmaking and alternative cinema once again as core components of our festival. When audiences come to Hollywood and Highland on Saturday night, we will deliver an unforgettable Halloween experience.”

As previously announced, the festival will open with the North American premiere of Wes Anderson’s Fantastic Mr Fox, while the official selection includes Precious, A Prophet, Bellamy, and Vincere.

This year the festival is offering complimentary tickets beginning on October 16 to all festival screenings in advance at AFI.com/AFI FEST. AFI Fest runs from October 30-November 7.
