Music Box Films has acquired all US rights to the German films North Face (Nordwand) from Beta Cinema and Cloud 9 (Wolke 9) from Match Factory.

Philipp Stolzl directed North Face based on a true story about two reluctant German climbers in 1936 who were urged by the Nazi propaganda machine to conquer the North face of the Eiger.

Andreas Dresen directed Cloud 9, about a woman in her late sixites who rediscovers her sexuality when she falls in love with a 76-year-old man. The film won a jury prize in Un Certain Regard last year and earned Ursula Werner the best actress prize in this year’s Bavarian Film Awards.

Music Box plans a third quarter release on both films. Music Box partners Ed Arentz and William Schopf brokered the North Face deal with Andreas Rothbauer of Beta Cinema and negotiated for Cloud 9 with Match Factory’s Michael Weber.
