Playtone and 26 Films' $20m comedy My Life In Ruins starring My Big Fat Greek Wedding's Nia Vardalos will get a special presentation screening as the closing night film at Tribeca.

Several cast members are expected to attend the May 2 event ahead of the comedy's nationwide North American release through Fox Searchlight on June 5. Its world premiere was held in Athens last week as reported on ScreenDaily.

Donald Petrie directed from a screenplay by Mike Reiss and Vardalos about a woman who finds love and rediscovers her kefi - the Greek version of mojo - while working as a tour guide in Greece.

Richard Dreyfuss, Maria Adanez, Sheila Bernette, Maria Botto, Rachel Dratch, Alexis Georgoulis, Ralph Nossek, Bernice Stegers, and Harland Williams round out the key cast.

Michelle Chydzik Sowa and Nathalie Marciano of 26 Films produced and Jeff Aberly, Julia Blackman, Rita Wilson, Peter Safran and Playtone's Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman served as executive producers.

'We are excited and thrilled that My Life In Ruins is receiving the honour of being the closing night event at the Tribeca Fest,' said Petrie, whose directing credits include How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days and Miss Congeniality. 'I can't think of a better launching pad for our film.'

The Tribeca Film Festival runs from April 22 to May 3 in New York.
