New Line Cinema's fantasy adventure The Golden Compass has passed censorship in China and will be released by the China Film Group and Hua Xia on 300-400 screens beginning on Mar 28.

The film has already grossed more than $322 million worldwide since its Dec 7 release and is also scheduled to open in Japan on Mar 1.

It is one of only a handful of American feature films that will be released in China this year. Only 14 American features were released in China in 2007.

The Golden Compass becomes the sixth New Line Cinema film to be distributed in China.
