Roadshow's opening film Constantine was sent inon the weekend to challenge the box office supremacy of UIP's Meet TheFockers, which is only on its second weekend on release. But it failed: Fockergrossed NZ$500,991 from 60 screens compared to the NZ$421,541 taken by Constantinefrom 65 screens
The onlyother opening film, Closer, came third, clearing NZ$137,834 from theconsiderably less 28 screens.
As was the case in most territories, the best filmwinner at the Academy Awards, Million Dollar Baby got a box officeboost. In New Zealand's case it went from twelfth last week to seventh thisweek, driven by a 154% improvement on ticket sales. The Motorcycle Diariesand Les Chorstes also ascended the chart.
