Artists Equity, Whisper, Mark Stewart Productions making doc on race car designer Adrian Newey

Artists Equity, The Whisper Group and Mark Stewart Productions (MSP) are collaborating on Turbulence: The Greatest Mind In Formula One (working title), a documentary about the celebrated British race car designer Adrian Newey.

The filmmakers aim to capitalise on public interest in the sport after Apple’s F1: The Movie became Hollywood’s highest-grossing original release of 2025. They follow Newey as he attempts to build a championship-winning car at Aston Martin Aramco after his surprise exit from Red Bull earlier this year.

Newey has 12 World Constructors’ Championships and 14 World Drivers’ Championships and is regarded as the sport’s greatest engineering mind. Co-directors Patrick Mark and Michael Tolajian got exclusive behind-the-scenes access to the team’s Silverstone campus.

The film will be produced in collaboration with Aston Martin Aramco and Formula One and interweave scenes of triumphs and tragedy from Newey’s career, encompassing Red Bull’s recent F1 dominance and Ayrton Senna’s tragic death.

Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, and Kyle Wheeler serve as executive producers for Artists Equity, alongside Brian Venturo and Stephen O’Connor, Drew Masters, Chris Grubb, Sunil Patel, and Mark Stewart for MSP. The executive producer roster includes Mark and Tolajian, while Emma Everitt serves as producer for Whisper

Newey, managing technical partner at Aston Martin Aramco, said: “Hopefully this film can portray the passion, the working practice, the strength of mind that is involved in bringing an F1 car to the grid. The film charts the challenges I have faced in joining a new team in early March to prepare for what is arguably the biggest regulation change in F1 history […] It’s been a wild ride so far, but F1 never stands still.”

Affleck said: “This film is about so much more than just racing, it’s about a living legend whose unrivalled career is full of ambition and reinvention. It’s those deep human attributes that we at Artists Equity feel so connected to and want to share in the stories we tell.”

Whisper CEO Sunil Patel said his company “believes in telling stories that impact the world, and you will struggle to find a more compelling and intriguing one as Adrian Newey’s incredible F1 journey. Stewart added: “Adrian Newey is the greatest engineer ever to grace F1. I’ve known him for many years, and this project comes at a very special moment in his career.”
