British genre auteur Ben Wheatley has signed on to direct a new version of Daphne du Maurier’s gothic classic Rebecca for Working Title and Netflix with a starry cast attached.

Lily James, who earned strong reviews for Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, will star alongside Armie Hammer, who can be seen in awards season contender On The Basis Of Sex.

Jane Goldman, whose recent credits include the Kingsman series and X-Men: First Class, is handling writing duties on the time-honoured story about a young bride plagued by the ghost of her new husband’s dead wife, Rebecca.

Working Title’s Eric Fellner and Tim Bevan are producing alongside Nira Park.

James’ credits include Baby Driver opposite Ansel Elgort, Darkest Hour with Gary Oldman, and Cinderella. She will next be seen in the Untitled Danny Boyle Film.

Hammer starred for Wheatley in the action comedy Free Fire, and his credits include Call Me By Your Name, The Social Network, Sorry To Bother You, and Hotel Mumbai. He has wrapped production on Babak Anvari’s untitled upcoming horror mystery.

Wheatley shot to fame in the UK with Kill List, and has also directed High-Rise, Happy New Year, Colin Burstead, Sightseers, Down Terrace, and A Field In England.
