Paris-based sales company Luxbox has unveiled first deals for Paraguayan director Marcelo Martinessi’s buzzy Golden Bear contender The Heiresses.
The film has sold to Spain (Betam), Greece (Weird Wave), Time Vision (China) and Cineworx (Switzerland).
The female-driven tale follows two previously wealthy women who have a fallen on hard times, against the backdrop of a fading Paraguay elite clinging onto its life of privilege.
The Heiresses has been warmly received by the critics in Berlin with many predicting a strong career on arthouse circuits.
Other titles on the Luxbox slate include Joao Moreira Salles’ In The Intense Now, Karim Aïnouz’s Panorama documentary Central Airport THF, and Berlin Competition title Museum, Alonso Ruizpalacios’ heist drama starring Gael García Bernal.
