EXCLUSIVE: Fiona Shaw, Denise Gough and Barry Ward have joined the cast of Mary Rose, the new feature from The Quiet Girl director Colm Bairéad, which has wrapped filming in Ireland.
They join previously announced Zara Devlin in the English-language film set in 1950s Ireland about Mary Kelly, who is left behind when her rebellious twin sister Rose flees to England. Years later, an unexpected encounter draws Mary into a double life that forces her to question her identity and the system that shaped her.
The period film shot on location for six weeks across Dublin and Wicklow from July to September. It is produced by Cleona Ní Chrualaoi of Dublin-based Inscéal, also behind The Quiet Girl, and co-produced by Dries Phlypo, Erik Glijnis and Leontine Petit of The Netherlands’ Lemming Film Belgium in association with Helen Gladders of London-based Gingerbread Pictures.
Shaw’s previous roles include Killing Eve and the Harry Potter films and she also stars in Georgia Oakley’s new adaptation of Sense And Sensibility. Gough recently starred in Andor and H Is for Hawk, while Ward’s recent credits include Channel 4 series Trespasses and Berlin Silver Bear winner Everybody Digs Bill Evans.
Mary Rose is financed by Film4, Screen Ireland, Eurimages, Screen Flanders, BNP Paribas Film Finance, RTÉ and mk2 Films through its slate deal with IPR.VC.
Mk2 Films also handles international sales and heads to TIFF with a weighty slate including Special Presentation titles Alpha Gang, Closing Night and The Man I Love, and Centrepiece titles The Lost Children Of Tuam and La Gradiva.
