‘Reedland’

EXCLUSIVE: Paul Hudson’s Outsider Pictures has acquired US rights to Sven Bresser’s Dutch Oscar submission and Cannes Critics’ Week selection Reedland.

The Netherlands-Belgium drama stars Gerrit Knobbe as a farmer who discovers a girl’s body in the reed land where he works, sending him on a dark journey as he strives to find the perpetrator.

Reedland will open in New York at Cinema Village on November 14 and Los Angeles at Laemmle Theatres sites on December 12, before expanding in January 2026 across the United States.

Marleen Slot’s Viking Film served as producer on the film, which has drawn a robust 40,000 admissions through Cinéart since opening in the Netherlands last month.

Reedland has been warmly received by the Dutch cinema-going community, far exceeding our expectations,” Slot said. “We hope that this gripping story of a rural murder and its impact on the local community will also find an audience in the US.”

Bresser said: “Globalisation has made old crafts like reed cutting unprofitable and causes them to slowly die out. People feel that their way of life is under threat. They want to protect their existence and identity. The whole film takes place within the ‘national boundaries’ of the community; the village as a microcosm under pressure from global forces over which the inhabitants themselves have no control…
