Metropolitan Filmexport and Le Meilleur du Cinéma obtain 35% stake in the Spanish VoD service.

Filmin has secured capital investment from Metropolitan Filmexport and Le Meilleur du Cinéma, who have obtained a 35% in Filmin.

The investment will allow the Spanish VoD service to increase its high end technology and marketing investment, and undertake international expansion.

Juan Carlos Tous, Filmin’s co-founder, commented: “With this vote of confidence, Filmin will secure its position as leader of independent cinema distribution in Spain.”

It comes just months after Metropolitan and Le Meilleur du Cinéma acquired a 49% stake in Belgium VoD service UniversCiné Belgium, forming the basis for an international independent VoD group.

“Our recent investments in UniversCiné Belgium and Filmin follow the success of our own VOD service Cinéma(s) à la Demande, which is operated by Le Meilleur du Cinéma. These additional investments reflect our commitment to the international expansion of our VOD operations,” outlined Victor Hadida, Metropolitan’s CEO.

Jean-Yves Bloch, president of EuroVoD and CEO of Le Meilleur du Cinéma, added: “We believe there is a place for services mainly aimed at Cinema lovers, and that it is only through consolidation and implementation of a shared vision that we can succeed in engaging consumers all over Europe with a unique, highly curated and editorialised offer of European and independent films.”

Le Meilleur du Cinéma and Filmin are founding members of the EuroVoD network which includes, among others, Flimmit in Austria, leKino in Switzerland and Volta in Ireland, alongside UniversCiné in France and UniversCiné Belgium.
