Filming has begun in Naples on Super Santos, an adaptation of Cuore Puro, the 2022 novel by Gomorrah writer Roberto Saviano.

The film is the feature directorial debut of Ciro Visco, whose TV directing credits include the Gomorrah series and Gangs of Milano. It is being sold internationally by PiperPlay.

Saviano co-wrote the screenplay together with Stefano Piedimonte and Visco.

The story follows a group of boys growing up in the outskirts of Naples who share a deep passion for football. Their love for the game becomes both an escape and a hope for a different future. However, the danger of crime is always just around the corner.

Through their story, Saviano explores the tension between childhood innocence, friendship, and the strong pull of organised crime in environments where opportunities are limited.

The cast includes Francesco Di Leva, Massimiliano Rossi, Antonia Truppo, and the young newcomers Thomas D’Angelo, Ciro Esposito, Ciro Dommarco and Danilo D’Ambrosio.

Super Santos is produced by Carlo Degli Esposti, Nicola Serra, and Marco Grifoni for Palomar (a Mediawan company), and by Massimiliano Orfei, Luisa Borella and Davide Novelli for PiperFilm.

It is a Palomar and PiperFilm production, made and distributed with the support of the Fund for the Development of Investments in Cinema and Audiovisual of the Ministry of Culture – Directorate-General for Cinema and Audiovisual.

Filming will take place over six weeks in Naples. Cristiano Di Nicola is the director of photography, Ludovica Ferrario is the production designer, Mariano Tufano is the costume designer, and Marcello Saurino will handle the editing.

Super Santos will be distributed in Italian theaters by PiperFilm and internationally by PiperPlay.
