Screen can reveal the first trailer for Australian drama West Of Sunshine, which premieres in the Orrizonti section of the 74th Venice Film Festival.

It is the debut feature from Jason Raftopoulos who based it on his short Father’s Day, which won the Silver Remi award at the Worldfest Houston International film festival in 2010. His recent short Kin screened at the Cannes Film Festival this year.

Shot over 18 days on the streets of Melbourne, the film follows a father who grows increasingly desperate to pay back a violent loan shark whilst caring for his son.

It stars Damien Hill (Pawno) in the leading role alongside his real life stepson Tyler Perham, who makes his screen debut. Kat Stewart (Offspring) and Tony Nikolakopoulos (Head On) also star.

West Of Sunshine is produced by Alexandros Ouzas (Plague) for Exile Entertainment and received production investment funding from Screen Australia.
