EXCLUSIVE: Independent Film Company has acquired North American rights to John-Michael Powell’s revenge thriller Violent Ends, which stars Billy Magnussen from No Time To Die and is being shopped by Upgrade to international buyers in Cannes.
Set in the Ozark Mountains, the film follows Lucas Frost, an honest man brought up in a crime family, who tries to live a peaceful life with his fiancée and is pulled back into the family business when his cousin carries out an armed robbery with brutal consequences.
The cast includes Alexandra Shipp from Barbie, Nick Stahl, James Badge Dale, Kate Burton, and Ray McKinnon. Vincent Sieber-Smith and Undine Buka served as producers, and Catherine Fegan-Kim and Alex Kim are executive producers through Midnight Road Entertainment, alongside Magnussen through his HappyBad Bungalow.
Independent Film Company plans a theatrical release after vice president of acquisitions and productions Ayo Kepher-Maat negotiated the deal with Pip Ngo for XYZ Films and Alex Brunner and John McGrath for UTA Independent Film Group.
Under the leadership of Scott Shooman, Independent Film Company is stepping up to acquire bigger features. It just picked up Cannes sales title Over Your Dead Body (formerly The Trip) starring Jason Segel and Samara Weaving.
Production on Violent Ends took place in Arkansas and Upgrade is presenting footage to international buyers on the Croisette.
