Kevin Spacey has joined Camelot Film’s conspiracy action thriller The Awakening, which Cloud9 Studios will introduce to Cannes buyers this week.
The cast includes Peter Stormare (Fargo, John Wick: Chapter 2), Alice Eve (Star Trek Into Darkness, Men in Black) newcomer Justin Tinto, Eddie ‘The Beast’ Hall (Expendables 4), and Matt Hookings (Prizefighter). Additional cast are Steve Berkoff (Red 2, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo) and Julian Glover (Indiana Jones & the Last Crusade, Game Of Thrones).
The Awakening follows Jason (Tinto) and Rebecca (Eve) as they uncover a conspiracy to control the world and race to expose the truth.
Matt Routledge directs and Tinto co-wrote the feature with Routledge and Hookings. Camelot Films is financing alongside Tinto. Production took place at Pinewood Studios and the project is in post.
Serving as producers are Camelot Films CEO Hookings and Tim Kent. Executive producers are Tinto, Sally Woodward, Adrian Goodisman, and Cloud9 Studios’ Pia Patatian.
Hookings said the project was “extremely timely”, adding: “Crossing over film lovers with conspiracy theorists has opened up a hybrid audience that I didn’t realise could exist.”
Spacey, who won Oscars for The Usual Suspects in 1996 and American Beauty in 2000, was acquitted of multiple counts of sexual assault and indecent assault in 2023. Since then he has embarked on what appears to be a tentative return, working on two films including a role as the Devil in 2024 Italian thriller The Contract.
Cloud9 Studios’ Cannes sales roster includes the thriller Old Man In The Dunes starring Aaron Eckhart; Barry Levinson’s thriller Assassination starring Jessica Chastain, Brendan Fraser, Al Pacino, and Bryan Cranston; romantic comedy Under The Stars with Toni Collette and Andy Garcia; and the supernatural horror thriller Unmerciful Good Fortune starring Rosario Dawson.
