EXCLUSIVE: Paris-based sales outfit Luxbox has acquired Argentinian directors Lorenzo Ferro and Lucas A. Vignale’s coming-of-age The River Train (El Tren Fluvial), ahead of its world premiere in Berlin’s Perspectives section.
The film is about a nine-year-old boy growing up in a remote riverside village with big dreams who sets off on a journey to Buenos Aires by train during which he balances solitude and independence, tradition and the pull of the unknown.
It is produced by Tomás Grandio, Valentine Torre, and Casiana Vera for Argentina’s Cinco Rayos’ and co-produced by Primo with the support of patron and art collector Amalia Amoedo.
Milo Barría stars with Lucrecia Pazos, Mailén Barría, Mariano Barría, Rita Pauls and Fabián Casas.
“Poetic and touching, the film invites us into a child’s gaze, discovering a big city like Buenos Aires, and the friendships and adventures that come with it,” said Luxbox CEO Fiorella Moretti.
Cinco Rayos’ Grandio, Torre and Vera explained they made The River Train during “ probably the worst time to be filming in Argentina”.
“ The only way we could make it was with very limited resources and in a very artisanal way. Being able to premiere it in Berlin with an international distributor like Luxbox is a source of pride for us and for independent cinema in Argentina.
”Our mission as producers is to encourage other young Argentine filmmakers to go out and shoot, and we believe that if there is one thing this film leaves you with when you watch it, it is that: the desire to go out and start filming.”
