Netflix has greenlit French film Quasimodo, which is set to shoot this summer in France starring Vincent Cassel in the title role.
Set in Paris on the eve of the July Revolution of 1830, the film reimagines the life of the man said to have inspired Victor Hugo’s iconic character, Quasimodo. As the cholera epidemic spreads through the city, he’s caught between political turmoil and an impossible love.
The film is directed by Jean-Francois Richet, whose credits include the upcoming Jason Statham-starrer Mutiny and 2008’s Mesrine: Killer Instinct. The latter film also starred Cassel.
It is written by Eric Besnard, and produced by Clément Miserez and Matthieu Warter of Mediawan-owned Radar Films.
