‘Sometimes I Think About Dying’

New Europe Film Sales has acquired international sales rights to Rachel Lambert’s Sundance title Sometimes I Think About Dying, and secured first deals on the film.

It has sold to Benelux (Imagine Distribution) and Turkiye (Filmarti). Further territories are under negotiation, with New Europe bringing the film to next month’s Marche du Film in Cannes (May 16-24).

Oscilloscope acquired US rights to the title from CAA earlier this week.

Sometimes I Think About Dying debuted in the US dramatic competition at Sundance in January. It is the story of Fran, an office worker in a small seaside town, who likes to think about dying. When she feels a spark with the new guy in her office, the only thing standing in their way is Fran herself.

The film is a fiction-producing debut for Star Wars star Ridley, who was previously executive producer on 2016 documentary The Eagle Huntress. Fellow producers are Alex Saks for Saks Picture Company, Lauren Beveridge and Brett Beveridge for Point Productions, and Dori Rath for Sweet Tomato Films; with co-producers Mariela Villa, Kyle Eaton and Steven Weisman; and executive producer Lisa D’Ambrosio for Mirror Image Films.

Cast alongside Ridley are Dave Merheje, Brittany O’Grady from season one of The White Lotus, Meg Stalter and Marcia DeBonis.

“Ever since I saw the film in Sundance I was completely obsessed with it and could not wait to tell the world about it,” said Jan Naszewski, CEO at New Europe. “Rachel has such a great eye for cinema and comedy.”

“The New Europe team has been an immediate and indefatigable champion of this film from the start,” said Lambert. “It’s incredibly flattering, given the robust library they have ushered into the cinematic landscape. To join those ranks is an honour, and I couldn’t be more excited to be working with them.”
