One Battle After Another

One Battle After Another has received six nominations for the 35th annual Gotham Film Awards, earning recognition for best film and director Paul Thomas Anderson, but not lead Leonardo DiCaprio.

Benicio del Toro and Teyana Taylor are in the running in the gender-neutral supporting performance category, while newcomer Chase Infiniti earned a nod for Breakthrough Performer.

For the first time, the Gothams has expanded its best feature category from five to 10 slots. Contenders include The Testament Of Ann Lee, Hamnet, If I Had Legs I’d Kick You, Train Dreams, and Sorry, Baby.

Lead performance nominees include Jessie Buckley for Hamnet, Tessa Thompson for Hedda, Lee Byung-hun for No Other Choice, Ehtan Hawke for Blue Moon, Josh O’Connor for The Mastermind, and Rose Byrne for If I Had Legs I’d Kick You.

Directing contenders joining Anderson are Jafar Panahi for It Was An Accident, Kelly Reichardt for The Mastermind, Oliver Laxe for Sirât, and Mary Bronstein for If I Had Legs I’d Kick You. Harris Dickinson earned a nod in the breakthrough director category for Urchin, and Harry Lighton is in contention for adapted screenplay with Pillion.

It Was An Accident competes in the international feature category with Park Chan-wook’s No Other Choice, Richard Linklater’s Nouvelle Vague, Mascha Schilinski’s Sound Of Falling, and Bi Gan’s Resurrection.

Searchlight Pictures’ Is This Thing On? was not completed by the deadline, and A24 did not submit Marty Supreme as Josh Safdie completed the film just prior to its secret screening at New York Film Festival and the company did not want to share links with nominating committees.

The 35th Annual Gotham Film Awards will take place in New York on December 1.
