Raven Banner has added Filipino action thriller Trigger (Topakk) to its AFM sales slate and will also serve as executive producer.

Richard Somes (We Will Not Die Tonight) directs the project, which has started production and stars Arjo Atayde as discharged veteran with PTSD who now works as a security guard and gets a shot at redemption when a woman seeks his protection from a cpolice death squad.

Julia Montes, Sid Lucero and Kokoy De Santos round out the cast.

Wilfredo C. Manalang of Fusee (Cannes Un Certain Regard selection and Japan’s Oscar submission Plan 75) produces with Richard Somes of Strawdog Studio Production, Ria Atayde and Sylvia Sanchez from Nathan Studios, and Michaelangelo Masangkay and Fernando Henna of Toronto-based post sound house Theo & Atlas Productions Inc.

“We’re excited to bring a new kind of action film from the Philippines,” said Manalang. “There were a lot of action movies in the early part of our film history, but the country has shied away from them for a long time.

Topakk is hopefully a spark to reignite a trend in such films coming out of southeast Asia. With our partnership with Raven Banner, we’re hoping to do just that.

Trigger is anticipated to be completed by the first quarter of 2023.
