EXCLUSIVE: Red Sea Media arrives in Cannes with international sales rights to the horror thriller Skillhouse starring starring social media personalities Bryce Hall and Hannah Stocking, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, Neal McDonough, Leah Pipes, and Emily Mei.
Josh Stolberg, whose credits include Saw X and Jigsaw, wrote and directed the film from GenTV, in which ten influencers are lured into Skillhouse, a sinister content house, and forced to compete in lethal social media challenges.
Producers are Ryan Kavanaugh, Shane Valdez, and Brad Baskin. “We have blended the most compelling elements of modern horror with authentic influencer integration – both within the narrative and through casting real-world digital stars,” said Kavanaugh, who added he believed Skillhouse “has the same kind of staying power and franchise potential we saw with Saw”.
Red Sea Media’s Roman Kopelevich negotiated the deal with Kavanaugh on behalf of the filmmakers.
Fathom Entertainment will distribute in the US on July 11, with a wide theatrical run scheduled for all major markets.
Red Sea’s recent slate includes Neglected with Josh Duhamel and Dylan Sprouse; Model Citizen starring Aaron Eckhart; Razor’s Edge with Tommy Lee Jones and James Franco; and Damaged starring Samuel L. Jackson and Vincent Cassel.
